Pratibha Sammelan 3 -  Feb 17-18

The third Pratibha Sammelan (the first one for Pratibha Poshak students from Chikkodi and Dharwad Education districts) was held on February 18-19, 2023 in the green and beautiful premises of University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad. This was the first time the 101 students selected from Hukkeri, Mudalgi, Gokak, Navalgund, Dharwad, Hubballi and Kalaghatgi block were meeting each other and their teachers and mentors. A visit to the Regional Science Center, an educative walk around the university campus and various creative contests were the high points of this 2-day retreat.

Computers to Train Future Teachers at CTE

RCF donated 20 computers (costing about Rs.10 lakhs) to setup a computer lab at the Government College of Teacher Education (CTE) in Belagavi, where hundreds of B.Ed. students, aspiring for a career in teaching, are getting trained. A generous donation by Mrs. Priya and Mr. OG Vijayshankar Variar made this possible. The lab was inaugurated on the 16th of January 2023 at the hands of Dr. Rina Panigrahy, Research Scientist at Google, California. On this occasion, Dr. Panigrahy, a gold medalist at the International Math Olympiad (IMO), addressed the students of CTE and inspired them to instill curiosity in children and employ practical, modern applications to motivate students to learn concepts in Mathematics and Science.

Pratibha Sammelan - 2 day retreat on 15 & 16 Oct

After two months of online interactions, students, teachers, mentors and organizers of Pratibha Poshak got together for a 2-day retreat, "Pratibha Sammelan", organized in Belagavi on 15th and 16th of October. A science model contest, hike & nature walk combining  "cleaning litter" drive, talent show and several group activities were part of the retreat. The two days were packed with activities and great fun.  86 students of Pratibha Poshak Phase-1 from different villages and towns across five taluks of Belagavi participated. Student interns helped in overseeing travel, accommodation, food arrangements and coordination of all the activities. Students gave valuable feedback and suggestions to improve the effectiveness of Pratibha Poshak.

Pratibha Poshak (Phase-1) Launched

Pratibha Poshak, our ambitious project to identify highly talented but under-resourced children, even from remote rural areas, and connect them with passionate creative teachers and caring mentors on a digital platform has taken wings! Phase-1 of the project was launched on 9th August 2022. 

In this phase, we have identified 90 students from Belagavi Rural, Belagavi City, Bailhongal, Ramadurg, Saundatti, Kittur and Khanapur education blocks and started high quality online classes for them. To enable these students to attend our online classes and mentoring sessions we have provided them good quality digital Tabs and Internet data package.

DNA Isolation Experiment by Students

Dr.Aruna Pawashe, faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine, visited RCF's Sadhana Mandir and guided the students of Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram (SPPU) in performing DNA isolation experiment. Dr. Pawashe gave a very informative presentation on the subject including the history of inventions and key milestones. Students enjoyed it thoroughly.

A Week of Book Giving

For the second time, we celebrated the International Book Giving Day! Students from six government schools, along with their teachers, visited the Sapna Book House in Belagavi, on different days of the week. Students enjoyed browsing the books and selected books for themselves and their school libraries. RCF sponsored 1800+ books at a cost of Rs. 1,42,000. More pics...

Enthusiastic participation in the EcoGarden contest 

"Waste isn't a Waste until we Waste it" has been the message children and teachers of Government Schools, who participated in the EcoGarden contest of RCF, are giving. Teachers and children have used several innovative ideas to make their school gardens with the help of unused PVC pipes, plastic bottles and tyres. Anaemia Screening and Treatment Programme

In association with the BHS Lakeview Hospital, RCF is conducting anaemia screening camp, followed by treatment programme for children of government schools. 

Masks Donated for the use of SSLC Students 

RCF donated 5,000 masks to the Department of Public Instruction (ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ) for the use of students writing their SSLC (Class X) exams on the 19th and 22nd of July 2021.

COVID Relief Work by Students 

Students being mentored under RCF's Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram identified 250 needy families in the Waddar Chavani area in Belagavi and carried out the task of distributing them relief material sponsored by Maadhayam Foundation, Bengaluru. Nearly 2.5 tons of material including masks, sanitizers and grocery kits ( was distributed to indigent families, taking all safety precautions. Pulse oximeters and IR thermometers were given for community use. Students also spread safety awareness in the Waddar community.

Painting work of KHPS Shree Nagar

Government Kannada Higher Primary School (KHPS) Shree Nagar was badly in need of painting for its walls. As the school did not have sufficient funds to meet the expenses, teachers had got the interior of the school painted by making contributions. The school teachers had approached RCF to get the exterior of the school painted. RCF got the work done. Pictures of the school ,as it looks now, can be seen on the left.

Spreading the Joy of Reading: Children Select Books for their School Libraries on the International Book Giving Day

On the occasion of International Book Giving Day (14th Feb) and during the following days, members of RCF took students from nine government schools to the Sapna Book House in Belagavi. Students enjoyed browsing the mega book house, and selected books for their school libraries. RCF sponsored 900+ books costing more than Rs.95,000. More pics...

Painting work of KHPS in Sonatti Village

Kannada Higher Primary School in the Sonatti village of Belagavi Taluk was in need of painting, for both exterior and interior. of walls. The school approached RCF as they lacked funds for this work. RCF funded and executed this project.

Good news in these challenging times

Four students, being mentored under RCF's Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram, have scored above 90 in the SSLC (10th class) board examinations 2020, all of them standing first in their respective schools. Three students, Aishwarya, Priya and Sakshi, have been selected for Rashtrotthana’s SAADHANA Prakalpa. They are among 63 students selected from the whole of Karnataka state through three rounds of filtering. They get free Pre-University Education (class XI and XII) with NEET/CET training along with hostel accommodation and food. 

From the 8th class students, five students have been selected for MHRD, Government of India scholarships through the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Examination. 

Unnath Shiksha Prerana Scholarships

Many talented students have to discontinue education after  X Std. or take up vocational courses due to financial constraints.  Three bright students, having great potential in a scientific/technology career, being mentored under RCF's Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram were given a scholarship of Rs. 15,000/- each, enabling them to get admission in a good Pre-University Science College.

Construction of new toilets in Muttyanatti School

Muttyanatti is a small village near Belgaum city. Rajalakshmi Children Foundation, in association with Rotary Club of Venugram, has taken up the task of constructing new toilets for the Government Higher Primary School in Muttyanatti.

Back to School kits distributed in flood affected schools

Armour of Care (AOC) had sent us very thoughtfully packaged student and teacher kits as well as water filters for schools affected by recent floods in the North Karnataka region. RCF members distributed these kits and water storage drums to schools in the Ramadurg taluk of Belagavi. 

Students participate in KRVP's Young Scientist contest

Seven students of RCF's Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram participated in the district level Young Scientist contest held in Belagavi Science Centre. The contest is organized by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat (KRVP) in association with the Department of Science and Technology, Karnataka State.  Shashikant Gadivaddar of 10th standard (at the centre in the photograph ) has been selected for the state level contest.

Teachers participate in BJC workshop at Pune

Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC) is an introductory computer science curriculum developed at the University of California, Berkeley. Prof. Dan Garcia and other members of the BJC team conducted a five-day workshop in Pune for school teachers intending to introduce programming at school level. RCF provided financial support to three teacher from Belagavi to participate in this workshop.
